Small aircraft mean strict limits - here's exactly what fits, and what to do with the rest.
The exact limits for local flights
All local scheduled flights cap checked luggage at 15kg (33lbs), in soft-sided bags only.

Carry-On Items
Handbags, small umbrellas, walking sticks, coats and small backpacks stow under the seat or in an overhead bin. These count toward your 15kg allowance and must not exceed 5kg on their own.
Why Soft-Sided Only
Small aircraft holds have limited, irregular space - hard-shell suitcases simply don't fit. Duffels and soft backpacks flex into the compartments and travel safely on bumpy strips.
Wheelchairs, car seats and more travel free
Collapsible wheelchairs, canes, walkers and crutches are carried free of charge for guests who need them, and don't count toward your baggage allowance. Foldable prams, strollers and baby car seats are also accepted.
Sporting or medical equipment can usually be arranged too - just let us know at the time of booking so we can confirm space and any charges.

Pre-Booked Freight Seat
Book and pay in advance for an additional seat to carry up to 75kg of excess luggage, still meeting the same baggage policy.
Space-Available Excess
Subject to availability, excess is charged at roughly $3+16% VAT per kg on local flights, or $4+16% VAT to Kilimanjaro and Entebbe - not guaranteed on the day of departure.
Free Luggage Storage
If you're on a return flight and don't want to carry excess with you, we store it free at our terminal until you're back.
Charter Flights
On charter safaris, extra luggage can usually be accommodated as long as the aircraft isn't already at capacity.

What's the checked luggage limit on flight safaris?
15kg (33lbs) per person, in soft-sided bags only - hard-shell suitcases can't be accommodated in small aircraft holds.
Can I bring a hard-shell suitcase?
No - soft-sided duffels or backpacks are required due to limited, irregular hold space on small aircraft.
What if I have more than 15kg?
Pre-book an additional freight seat for up to 75kg of excess, or pay a per-kilogram rate if space allows on the day (not guaranteed). Alternatively, store excess free at our terminal.
Are wheelchairs and mobility aids counted in the baggage allowance?
No - collapsible wheelchairs, canes, walkers and crutches travel free of charge and don't count toward your 15kg limit.
Can I bring a baby car seat or stroller?
Yes - foldable prams, strollers and baby car seats are accepted without counting against your allowance.
Where can I store luggage I don't need on the flight leg?
Free storage is available at our terminal for return-flight passengers, and at our Nairobi or Mombasa offices more generally during your safari.
