Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a private reserve between the Tsavo parks - a good add-on for a 2-day break with different scenery and fewer vehicles.
In Tsavo West, Mzima Springs lets you watch hippos and crocodiles underwater through a glass viewing chamber - a genuinely unusual sighting most first-time visitors don't expect.
